What's the deal with egg substitute?

HI.. I am VERY new with all this low-fat, health stuff... I just found out yesterday that butter and margarine come in a spray! :eek: So, you can see how inexperienced I am. Anyway, I'm going through a bunch of WW-friendly recipes and they call for egg substitute in them. What's so wrong with eggs? I looked up the point value of eggs and they're not high in points. So, can anyone tell me why egg sub. is so important? Why can't I just use regular eggs?? thanks.....

The only thing I can tell is that it would be a matter of preference. Real eggs are 2 points, egg substitutes are 1 point per 1/4 cup. So, when you're trying to get the most bang for your buck a lot of people make the switch. As for me, I do choose to use the egg subs in cooking and baking. They're a fat free, cholesterol free food. On the other hand if I'm scrambling up an egg for breakfast, I want the real thing.

Egg substitutes are merely egg whites with a bunch of chemicals added. It's cheaper for me to throw the yolks out. 2 egg whites = 1 point.

Quilter in VA, have you tried purchasing them at Costco? I found a six pack for around $7. What a deal! Now if I can use them all up by their Novmeber expiration date. smile.gif I am addicted to the egg substitute with the precooked crubled bacon and 2% cheese made into an omlette. Only three points and YUM!
