Walking

Anyone interested in starting to walk with me (posting time, distance, etc.)? I start, do well for a while then quit. I need to start and not quit again. Today I walked for about 25 minutes. I need a new battery for my pedometer so I don't know the steps or distance. I talked with my doctor about this a while ago and he suggested walking for exercise...working up to 2 miles in 30 minutes daily.

 

I think I'm going to start with walking 15-30 minutes daily (M-F, never know what we'll be doing on Saturdays and Sunday is church and usually other things) to get into the habit and then work on distance and speed.

I'll walk and post with ya, I try to walk 2 laps around my complex at work on my breaks and then usually a mile with DH after work and then I do a walk away the pounds deal too and i'm trying to do a total of between 3-4 miles a day now.

 

I started out doing 1-2 miles a day and just built up from there. I realized sitting at a desk all day is not helping which is why I started doing a quick walk at work just to get MOVING instead of sitting. Every little bit helps!! :workout: :walking:

I AM walking with you! :D Not as far as you -- YET -- but that's my aerobic exercise of choice while the weather cooperates. I'm starting from a very sedentary place, so am easing into it very slowly.

 

I started a thread in the Goals & Challenges forum to keep track of my walking. Guess maybe I should've posted it in this forum, but I'm newly returned to the boards and had forgotten where everything went. Anyway, it's the thread for a Beginner's Beginning Exercise, or something similar. There's a link in the thread to the site I got my program from.

 

Reminds me, I haven't been yet today. I usually take my walk when my son goes to the bus-stop, but we drove today because it's garbage day. I'll have to see if I can get out after the baby wakes up from her nap.

I'm sooooooo up to walking with you. Would just love it to be a "group" thing. :lol:

 

I walk constantly, at least 6 days a week, sometimes 7.

 

My pedometer that measures steps needs a battery too, but I have another one I've been using that measures miles so I'll post that way for a bit.

 

I've started to keep an exercise log of time and distance.

 

Sept. 16th - 4.20 miles

Sept. 17th - 3.43 miles

Sept. 17th - 1.86 miles

 

I cannot walk too fast as I have a foot that causes me problems. I broke it a few yrs. ago and now have a bone spur and some swelling. However, I love walking so I' m "IN"! :strong:

Ashlee that's great, you're really getting in the miles! Good for you!!

My mom had a bone spur removed a couple years ago, all I can say is really know your doctor if you ever have your foot operated on, she did not have good luck and they worked on it twice, she said no more for her!

Anyway - cool to having walking buddies!

 

Are we posting here or on the other thread ?

Suzanne, we can post time or miles or steps - if you don't know how far you're going you could try measuring by driving it with your car. Or if you know your pace, I usually walk a mile in 15 minutes so I know if I walk 30 minutes its approx. 2 miles - but normally I walk a route I know how long it is from the car.

I'll post here for now unless you change it. We can just start a new thread every week?

 

Monday - 4.5 miles total

Tuesday - 2.5 miles

Wednesday - 4 miles

Thursday - 3.5 miles

Friday - I'll update when i'm done in a bit.

Hi All.........

Can I join your walking group??? It gets a little lonely walking on your own. When that happens...........it is so easy to quit. I usually post my walking re: times, but I'll try to get to get a new battery for my pedometer :angel .

I only count steps, and I've been posting them on the exercise accountability thread on this forum. There's a new thread every week.

Sept. 19th - Sunday - 3.26 miles. Just the one walk today. It's almost night here so probably won't go for another walk today.

 

Tomorrow, I'll walk to and from work though. It's the same walk as above, but just a bit farther. Will try and remember to take my pedometer to get the correct miles.

Sept. 20 - Monday - walked 3.40 miles, plus 15 min. walk on noon hour

Sept. 21 - Tues. - walked a "total" of 6.32 miles today.

It's been a beautiful day here in Ontario for walking. Managed a 80 minute walk today, earning 5 AP !!! Yay !!!! Here's my updated weekly stats.

 

Monday Sept 20----------20 min. (Worked today.....little time)

Tuesday Sept 21----------no walking

Wednesday Sept 22------80 min walk (Happy First Day of Autumn !!)

Thursday Sept 23--------60 min walk

Friday Sept 24-----------45 min walk
