Turkery pepperoni

Recommended Posts

Hormel turkey pepperoni is so yummy. I use it for everything. Sometimes even, just as a low protein snack. I chop it up for salads and omelets. Try it if you haven't. You get 17 (!!!) slices for 2pts. If you chop it for dishes, you'll find you don't even need the whole 17 and it really adds some kick.

I use it on low fat pizza I make myself and it is so good. I can't stand the grease in regular pepperoni. I have also used it to make pasta salad too. I will try this in some eggbeaters for breakfast. Thanks for the tips on more ways to use it. Blessings Jane

LOVE this stuff. Here's another way to eat it: put some slices on a plate and microwave them until they get crispy. What a great afternoon snack!

Lori, I agree, this stuff is yummy! I also use it to make a lowfat pizza with the flatout bread. I haven't tried it in an omlette yet, that sounds delicious. Thanks for the ideas!

DH loves regular pepperoni on spaghetti....so I microwave that for him and I use the turkey stuff.for me. Not a big difference....and I do love the fact that you get 17 slices!!!

LOVE it!

Nobody in my family even realizes it's different. I make the kids' "lunchables" for their bag lunch with it--also I put it in my ziti casserole for a little extra flavor. It is a bargain. It's also good out of the bag!:p

Lynn, not all stores carry it, but it is Hormel so I'm sure if you did a little searching you could find it! It is a staple in this house as well. Yummy little round meat-like zesty spicy proteiney.........

I'm hungry...

Lori,

After reading finding out about turkey pepperoni on this thread last night. I went out this morning to try and find it. So far I haven't. So I guess I will have to do some searching. Are there any other little secrets you're hiding?:)

I don't normally like pepperoni cause it is too greasy, so is this better, same flavor without the grease? I hate the pools of grease on the top of my pizza when using real pepperoni.

I've found it in a lot of different stores. The packaging is very similar to the regular Hormel pepperoni and it's usually in the same display. Do you live near a Super Walmart?

Absolutely. In my Walmart it's near the pre-packaged shredded cheese, bacon, frankfurters and stuff like that.

Another good find in the same area is pre-sliced Canadian Bacon that also provides several (I can't recall exactly) slices for 1 point. This is also good on pizza, in omelets, and for snacking.

They also make the canadian bacon in the small slices like the turkey pepperoni. I picked it up to try on our next pizza. VERY LOW in points.

Thanks again Sue! Thanks to you too Arlene. I'm on my way out the door to find my turkey pepperoni, and canadian bacon. Any other tips either of you ladies can give on other low point snacks would be appreciated.

Arlene, I know you seem to have a wealth of good recipes also. Any you'd like to share? :)

Well ladies -

I got my turkey pepperoni, and Lori it's so good. I've used it in an omelet, on a weight watchers pizza, and in a salad so far. I can't believe this one slipped by me. I should have been using it so long ago.

Thanks for the tips ladies!;)

BTW - Audri, no pools of grease.:)

Here is my latest recipe for Turkey Pepperoni:

Italian Turkey Pepperoni Bites (makes 40 appetizer servings)

1 3.5 oz package Hormel Turkey Pepperoni (7 points)

4 oz Cabot 75% reduced fat cheddar cheese, shredded (4 points)

1 chopped tomato (free)

¾ c reduced fat mayo (12 points) if using fat free (3 points)

2 T prepared pesto (3 points)

2 10 oz package refrigerated flaky biscuits (40 points)

Preheat Oven to 350 degrees.

In bowl, combine pepperoni, cheese, tomato, mayo and pesto

Cut each biscuit in half. Place biscuit halves in greased miniature muffin cups, pressing gently to fit cups.

Spoon 1 T of filling into each cup.

Bake 20 to 25 minutes. Serve Warm.

Makes 40 appetizer servings at 1.65 WW points each. You could also make 12 regular size muffins if you prefer for 5.5 points each.

NOTE: You could also lower the total points by using FF mayonnaise or Miracle Whip and omitting the pesto- this would bring the point total to 1.35 WW points or 4.5 points each.

That appetizer recipe looks great!

I usually bring two low point sandwiches for lunch .. 4 slices diet bread = 2 points, and 1 point of turkey lunch meat and 1 point of turkey pepperoni. I'll add some shredded lettuce and FF italian dressing for a little "sub" today. May or may not toast the bread. But it "looks" like a lot of food for only 4 points! As my points keep inching downward, I may end up making "open face sandwiches" the same way to save one more point.
