Guest J-Smith Posted January 16, 2006 I was just reading the Spaghetti Pie recipe on this board and got to thinking about my DH's favorite recipe his grandmother used to make. Here is the recipe with the CORE adjustments I plan to make. What do y'all think?  Crust: 1 pound CORE ground beef 4 oz. canned tomato sauce 1/2 cup uncooked quick oats (instead of bread crumbs) 1/4 cup chopped onions 1/4 cup chopped bell pepper 1 1/2 tsp. Salt, 1/8 tsp. pepper and 1/8 tsp. oregano  Combine all ingredients and mix well. Pat meat mixture into bottom and up sides of a 9" pie plate. Set aside.  Filling: 1 1/3 cups Minute Rice (thinking about couscous or brown rice) 12 oz. canned tomato sauce 1 cup grated FF Cheddar 1 cup water 1/2 tsp. salt  Combine rice, sauce, salt, water and 1/4 cup of the cheese. Spoon rice mixture into meat shell. Cover with foil. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes. Uncover and sprinkle with remaining cheese. Return to oven and bake uncovered for 10-15 minutes longer. Guest ThinkingThin28 Posted January 17, 2006 are you supposed to brown the meat mixture before you bake. Or line the pie dis with it raw???
Guest J-Smith Posted January 17, 2006 You line the dish with the RAW meat mixture. Â Let me know what you think when you try it! I'd LOVE some feedback on this one!
judyjudyjudy 0 Posted January 17, 2006 I would love to try this recipe. It looks so good. I have all the ingredients except for the FF Cheddar. I always look for this when I go to the store, but can never find it. Any suggestions? ~ * ~ * ~Judy ~ * ~ * (last updated - 03/25/07 CW: 185 Goal:
Momster 10 Posted January 17, 2006 Why not look in the produce section for soy cheese. It's core even if it's not FF. I don't know why stores put it in the produce area instead of the dairy section. Momster
judyjudyjudy 0 Posted January 17, 2006 Thanks Momster. That's a very good idea! Maybe they put it in that section because they consider soybeans vegetables? ~ * ~ * ~Judy ~ * ~ * (last updated - 03/25/07 CW: 185 Goal:
