So I start core tomorrow..yay!! I noticed that lean ground beef and turkey are core. So does anyone have any good recipes for a core burger? I know the bun wouldn't be, but the burger part should be, right?

From Weight Watchers. My husband and I love these but be careful with the Jerk spices, very spicy but a nice compliment to the fruit salsa. I also grilled the burgers on the BBQ last time and they came out great! Enjoy!

Jamaican Jerk Turkey Burgers with Tropical Fruit Salsa

Servings: 4

Preparation Time: 22 min

Cooking Time: 25 min

Level of Difficulty: Easy

  • 1/2 cup papaya(s), diced
  • 1 cup mango(es), diced
  • 3/4 cup red onion(s), finely chopped, divided
  • 1/2 cup green pepper(s), finely chopped, divided
  • 2 Tbsp cilantro, fresh, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 cup uncooked quick oats
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp jerk seasoning, Jamaican-variety
  • 1 large egg(s)
  • 1 pound uncooked ground turkey breast

  • To prepare salsa, combine papaya, mango, 1/4 cup each of red onion and green pepper, cilantro and lime juice in a medium bowl; set aside.
  • To prepare burgers, combine remaining 1/2 cup of red onion, remaining 1/4 cup of green pepper, oats, ketchup, jerk seasoning and egg in a large bowl; mix until well combined. Add turkey; mix thoroughly. Divide turkey mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a 1-inch-thick patty; cover and refrigerate for a minimum of 20 minutes.
  • Preheat broiler. Broil burgers until cooked through, flipping once, about 20 to 25 minutes total. Serve each burger topped with about a heaping 1/3 cup of salsa.

Adding Worchestire (sorry for the spelling!) sauce always flavors up a good burger also!

I have started making these:

1 lb. 93% lean ground beef

1 lb. 93% lean ground turkey

1/2 C. Eggbeaters

1/2 C. seasoned breadcrumbs (count as 1/2 pt.)

Mix well and form into 6 large patties. Grill on BBQ if possible--use low heat, 8 min. per side. Serve with BBQ sauce and dill pickles!!!

Also--look in your spice area at the store. If you can find anything that says Kansas City Steak Seasoning, buy it!!! Add 1 level Tbls. to 1 lb. lean ground beef and grill your burgers. This stuff is wonderful!! There's lots of chunky onion and garlic in it.

good luck on CORE!! 4 weeks in and I'm loving it!!

I mix 1 # lean hambuger with about 1/2 to 2/3 cup salsa then make my patties and grill makes it so moist. The last time I bought the southwestern salsa with black beans & corn it was a great change from the regular salsa.

I can do this with the strength Christ gives me!!
