Question about popcorn??

Recommended Posts

I got smart pop 94% fat free kettle corn.

If I eat 1 bag it makes about 2 servings of 6.5 cups popped

1 cup is 15 cal

2.4 g fat

5 g fiber.

So how do I calculate this?? Do I multiply each by 6.5 and then times that by 2 and enter that number in the calculator and do the points that way??

Thank you so much

I would take the nutrition information for the serving and then multiply it by two for the whole bag. Then calculate the points for the whole bag, assuming that's the amount that you were planning to eat. If it only gives the per cup, then yeah, 1 cup times 6.5 per serving times two servings.

I don't know about the kettle corn, but Smart Pop's Movie Theatre Butter popcorn lists in the leftmost column of the NI the info you need for one serving (which is 1/2 bag) - (except for calories, which they list for one cup - I remember going through this once - it's funny that they do it this way!). If the kettle corn NI is done the same way, it looks to me like if you want to eat the whole bag, you'd need to multiply the calories for 1 cup popped by 6.5, but multiply the total fat and fiber by 2 (since those figures are for 1/2 bag) and use those numbers for your slider.

points = (calories + 4 x fat grams - 10 x fiber grams)/50

If there are indeed 13 cups in the bag (6.5 cups x 2) then it'd be 13 cups x 15 calories = 195

fat grams 4 x 4.8 = 19.2

fiber (2 servings) 10 x 10 = 100

(195 calories + 19.2 - 100) / 50 = 2.284

fiber (2 servings) 10 x 10 = 100

Fiber has to be capped at 4.

By my slider it's 4 Points (including the fiber cap). I count almost all normal bagged 94% FF popcorns as 4 Points. I think WW will let you count them as 3.5 Points if you do half Points (I don't).

It's close enough. It was a bummer for me though, because on 1-2-3 (before the fiber cap) it was 2 Points.

I think WW puts out a popcorn that's lower Points but they do it by packaging a smaller portion. It's the same popcorn.

Never mind... The NI on the bag is indeed very confusing, but it appears to come out to 4 points per serving.

Okay I can deal with 4 points no problem. Thank you so much. Is just that we watch lots of movies and before we use to snack on chips and junk and now we have switched to popcorn and I am a popcorn addict. :)

I just got adjust everything else through out the day.

Thanks again ladies.

AAACCCKKK - I am just not thinking very clearly today! I meant 4 points for the entire bag (2 servings) - like what Nancy said above. Sorry 'bout that.

I do Core though, so it's been a long time since I've counted points for popcorn - gotta love Core! I do remember having to think Smart Pop through when I was doing Flex, though, because the NI was not as straightforward as it is on many foods!
