Question about slow cookers

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to post a question... but here goes...

I just got a crockpot for Christmas (yay!), and so far I am LOVING it! I have already made two WW recipes! YUM! :bcb_bigsm I have another recipe that I would like to try for Corned Beef and vegetables (I will post it if it is good...), but I was thinking of splitting the recipe in half. First, because it makes 6 portions while I live alone... which makes for A LOT of leftovers, and also because it calls for a 5-7L slow cooker - and mine is only 3 1/2 L.

So as a slow cooking newbie, my question is... if you half the recipe, would you cook it for less time? Seems logical, no? How much less time? The recipe says to cook it on low for 8-10 hrs or high for 4-5 hours. What would you do?

TIA!

I have several sizes of slow cookers but I don't adjust the time based on the size of the cooker but rather some of my cookers cook hotter than others. I often halve recipes to fit in my tiny slow cooker and still use the same range of times. You might check it at the low end of the time range but it can take a while to get used to how your pot cooks.

Thanks, Joanne! That makes sense, too... glad I asked!

I realized when I had to rearrange my freezer this morning that I simply do not have the space to make this recipe this week! I have some eating to do first. Haha... I will go ahead and post the recipe, though, 'cause it looks delish and I can't wait to try it!

Thanks again!
