Other than The 8 Good Health guidelines saying to

5. Ensure that you are getting enough protein by choosing at least a serving or two of meat, poultry, fish, eggs, or dried beans each day. Many dairy products are also good sources of protein.

there are no specific guidelines.

However, there used to be a handout about how to balance your points called POINTSpie that might help you plan a more balance intake.

Thanks for this chart Joanne. I wondered about this myself as my PT keeps telling me to eat more protein.

I have had good results with the "balanced" version of the Points chart Joanne posted, including my relatively high activity level with weight training. To go "high protein" I pretty much have to give up fruit and I won't do that. I have 2-3 fruit servings per day (I'm a throwback to old WW where we had to have 3 fruits). It's a good resource but don't feel like you have to be bound by it to be On Program.

I have a Target of 20. I tend to eat approx. 2 pt. worth of protein at lunch and 2-3 pt. at dinner, plus my milks.

Since you are active don't be afraid to use your Activity Points and WPA to get some additional protein in. Don't think you are limited to 20 Points. I don't think I've had a 20-point day in the last month.

Also remember that trainers may or may not know anything about nutrition and will often recommend more protein than you need. Men who are attempting to bulk up need extra protein to do that.
