Problem with Soup/Veggie Points

Recommended Posts

Ok I have a problem. I see many recipies up here, and a lot of them look amazing. However, most of them just list like...1 point per serving. However, If i wanted to have say...3 servings for instance, I know i'd have to add up the calories, fat, and fiber (up to 4) of those three servings, and the point total might be higher than 3 points. How do you do that with these types of recipies (especially soups?) or with fresh veggies in general? Any tips would be appreciated! thanks!

Cactus - it would depend on the recipe. For the garden vegetable soup from this recipe (I copied this from another thread) -

GARDEN VEGETABLE SOUP

Recipe from WW Getting Started Book

4 servings

0 points per serving

2/3 cup sliced carrot

1/2 cup diced onion

2 cloves garlic

3 cups fat free broth (beef, chicken or vegetable)

1 1/2 cups green cabbage leaf -- diced

1/2 cup green beans

1 tablespoon tomato paste

1/2 teaspoon dried basil

1/4 teaspoon dried oregano

1/4 teaspoon Salt

1/2 cup zucchini -- diced

If you ate a large quantity of this soup, you would need to count the points for the carrots and the onion - everything else would still be zero, I think.

Most of the zero point soups depend heavily on cabbage, green beans, broccoli, zucchini, etc, plus seasonings; those are zero point foods even if you have several servings.

If a soup has any of the starchy vegetables, then you'd have to figure out if there are points in additional servings even if one serving was zero.

Does that make sense? :)

It sure does! Thanks a bunch! I just made some, didnt put any onions in and barely any carrots, so i'll probably eat half the batch and just count the whole thing as zero. It excites me to no end. I've been on this for almost a month now and I havent made soup yet. I just usually eat it canned! This way though...you can have so much more! Wooo!

Thanks ;p

I have heard that either way is acceptable at my meetings.

Add up totals from NI info x # of servings then figure out points, or figure out points per 1 serving and multiple by number of servings.

Hmm. Thats an interesting take! Back when I did WW a few years ago, we always used to do it by taking the number of servings, and then just assuming each serving was the same number of points. However, I havent seen anyone else besides you (granted I haven't look to hard) mention the old method lately.
