Martha Beck's New Book-The Four Day Win

Martha Beck has my number. No doubt about it!

 

I ordered the book from Costco.com, but I also saw it on Amazon.com.

 

Under the title it says, "End your diet war and achieve your thinner peace."

 

As with the Beck Diet Solution, this book works with any diet plan, including WW. Some on the chapter titles are really funny.

 

Chapter 4 "The Transtheoretical Model and the Piggly Wiggly Problem."

Chapter 10 "The Most Important Weight-Loss Skill in the History of the Universe."

Chapter 12 "How to Stop Eating When You Can't Stop Eating."

 

There are 35 chapters, and 352 pages. Martha Beck does know how to write a book that I find helpful. I am only on page 2, but wanted to let my buddies know about my latest find.

There are "tasks" to do at the end of each chapter, starting with chapter 2.

 

The only task at the end of chapter 1 is to move onto chapter 2. I think I'll head to bed instead.

I LOVE Martha Beck! :bcb_grin

 

She's the reason I buy O-magazine. Just for her articles. (Even Oprah says she reads Martha first...) She is so funny (and smart). And she has real problems. She usually says things in a way that stick-with-me.

 

Thanks for bringing this up, Donna. I've actually wanted to read all of her books (when I read reviews), but I think I'll go on the hunt for this one first.:salut

 

I wonder if they have this at Costco? On the aisles?...

You know what? I never even noticed these were different people! I just went and checked my books to confirm-they are different.

 

Very busy today and work, and with the hour that I spent at the gym this morning (and now on the computer), I have had very little time to read.

 

She does refer the reader to page 309 to Jump-Start the weight-loss program. There is a quiz on page 327 to determine your "diet profile". I profiled as both high and low need for information (I suppose that means medium need for information?) and a high need for structure. Then they list the diet plans for whatever type profile you had. Duh! Weight Watchers is right there in the list for high need for structure. I already knew WW works for me.

 

I'm still at the begining of Chapter 2.

Interesting about the high need for structure and ww, I bet they mean FLEX when they say WW....but core works for YOU obviously Donna!

Check out ebay because I found it there for $7 plus $3 shipping. A bargain. I always have good luck with ebay books. Mine was shipped yesterday so I'll have it by Monday. Sounds interesting.

Hi! Came out from "lurk-dom" to say that I ordered this from Amazon ($6.99 and free shipping because I can always find $25 worth of stuff!), and I love it. It's full of chuckles, which makes it fun to read. And what I've read tells me this will be of great help to me. It's like she was in my head looking around when she wrote about the feelings that go along with fighting a battle with weight.

it is mostly head exercises... no diet info so will work with any food plan.. all behaviorial... not sure if I am buying any of it yet or not.

I will say that my "daily reward" for my "ridiculously easy daily goal" is to get on the BCB website!

 

OK, I can do 4 days of this.

 

I can already tell that it does get harder.

 

Weight loss really is all a head game, after all. We didn't put on weight because we didn't know that KFC was bad for us. We put on weight because of the head games we were playing.

I just started reading and am confused. Does she want us to read the Jump Start part in the appendix and then the rest of the book? It makes sense to do it that way but she's not clear.

 

I think I'll go read that part now and see what's what.

Yes, that's what she wants you to do.

 

Read the JumpStart (pg 309?) and then go back to chapter 3 and finish the book.
