i've kinda been dying to try this...a few of my friends have it and supposedly love it...i don't really have the money to spend on it right now, but judging from this thread, i'm assuming everyone likes it and feels it actually works? do you all follow the diet too, or just the videos?

Hi Jax,

The program works! Its very intensive. I always say you need to be in some shape before starting this program. They do have a fitness test to attempt before starting P90X.

I keep my diet balanced between lean proteins and complex carbs high in Fiber. I do the videos as well as dictated by the program.

There are some reviews out there on the program. I believe Amazon.com has great user Reviews. 500+

Wed Update: Last night I was able to complete Plyometrics. However, my plan to get up early and work out failed. frown.gif So, it'll be Arms and Shoulders tonight after the carnival. It'll be tough, but definately doable.

No DOMS as of yet, but we all know they can creep up on you.

Looking forward to taking DS to the carnival tonight. Wristband night. One Fee gets him on all the rides. Busiest day too. All his buddies will be there. I love watching him with his friends. Brings back memories when I was a kid. I still am a kid, just with more expensive toys. :)

Hi everyone! I just started on here yesterday and am excited to see a P90X thread! I completed two weeks two months ago and then the majority of our house came down with a nasty stomach bug. I've "restarted" several times since then but am now on board 100%. It will be great to talk to those of you going through the same thing!

Hey Rich, question about the nutrition plan. I know you said you incorporate lean protein, complex carbs, high fiber- but do you feel this is enough to refuel you for the workouts? I ask this because WW limits the number of calories (pts) we consume, and as we lose wieght, this number goes down. But looking over the nutrition plan, the caloric consumption increases with phases. It says in the books it's imperitive to follow the nutrition plan to have the right amount of energy and increase performance. So my question to you is- how do you incorporate the nutrition plan + ww? I want to keep doing ww, but I don't want to feel fatigued or risk injury because I'm avoiding high point-fuel necessary food or something like that.

Hey Rich,

I love reading your posts, although it makes me soooo jealous. I tried to start the program a couple of months ago, but my knees can't handle. I have osteo-arthritis and recently started taking glucosamine chondroitin. I can finally run again, so it's working, but I'm not able to handle P90X yet. :( I have, however, been doing the X yoga and I love love love it. I do it about 2 times a week and have seen such amazing results. I really hope I can do the whole program someday. Rawk on! You're an inspiration.

Hi Goddess, Yes it is very tricky to incorporate the WW way of eating with P90X. based on the WW eating plan, if calculated each point at 60 Cals, I would be allotted 1700 p/day (28 Pts). However, because P90X demands at least an hour of either resistance training or Cardio, I usually calculate 5 - 7 activity points. Which is about 300 Cals which will bring me up to 2000. cals a day. Ideally, I should be consuming about 2200. However, I do deplete myself 200 a day on average. I usually save the 300 cals for my recovery/Protein shake. GNC's Wheybolic Extreme. 302 Cals, 60 g of high quality protein, and 2g of Fat. 5.5 Pts. I hope to have answered your questions.

Pink, thanks! I heard Glucosomine works wonders!!. Its been recommmneded for me to take, I'm about to turn 40 and after a lot of running, I start developing Hip Bursitis. I've just been too lazy or don't remember to take it.

Thur Update: So last night, the whole family went to the carnival. DW, DS, and the twins!! DS was all over the place on all the rides. Even the twins got in on the action. DW and I jumped on a ride with a Twin each. DS loved it. He kept yelling, "My brothers are on their 1st ride" I kept cracking up. However, there were a lot of temptation. I won't go into the food porn, but just think of all the possible bad carnival food. Exactly!!. I stayed away from it all, even though my stomach was growling.

We got home at 8:00 PM, and I went straight to the basement. I put everything out of my mind and did Arms and Shoulders. It felt A M A Z I N G. I was so pumped up when I was done. Again, like the other night. I was not able to stomach food after working out. I just drank my Protein shake. I was able to eat some cottage cheese right before bed. I was again all wound up. So I had to watch a bit of TV before I finally passed out around 11.

Tonight, I'm planning on going home and doing yoga. Then we are taking my cousin out to say goodbye. :( Shes going home after spendin six months with as helping us out with the twins. She was a big help. We're going to PF Changs. I already checked out their menu and know what I'm ordering. Gotta go prepared.

Pics,

Heres a pic of the twins, right before I put them to bed and of me in NYC :)

Ok, sorry to beat this to the ground, but do you feel you need the protein shakes? I don't think I will take them, I just don't want to drink my calories plus I'm scared about bulking or something. Also- even though you say your total comes to 2200 with the APs- do you feel like that amount of food gives you enough energy for the program? I'm afraid I'm going to deplete my energy and risk performance and stamina by eating less. Also- do you follow their nutrition layout? Like reducing carb intake the 1st phase, adding it back in a little the second phase etc?

BTW, your twins are SO cute. How old are they? They look like they're in the fun stage- just learning about life. Nice job avoiding the carny food, that's hard. Can I ask what you are ordering at PF Changs, just in case I go there anytime soon and need to know a staple in the menu...

BTW is that you in the bottom picture? If so, you look great. I saw your before pics and this is truely inspirational.

Goddess, you can beat as much as you want. Sometimes I do feel hungry and I do eat a healthy snack. I'm really not following P90X's nutritional guide too much. I enjoy carbs, so I'll still eat them after Phase 1. In regards to the protein, its a big YES. After I lost the weight on WW. I actually got to thin. I was lifting on a reg basis. I was leaning out. I started on protein shakes two years ago as a post workout recovery drink. Protein helps build lean muscle and helps the strained muscle fibers repair themselves after a workout. I'm now about 186 and 14% BF. Which means that of my body, 26 lbs is fat. When I lost the weight 2 years ago, I was 175 and 19% BF. So i have been able to put on some lean muscle in 2 years. The WW lifestyle is with me for life. I cannot look at food and not put a point value on it. LOL. even with P90X, I still count my points.

I belong to another board. A woman was on a dif excercise program, but ate very healty. She stayed the same weight. But went down 4 dress sizes in 12 weeks just by lowering Body Fat. An amazing job.

Thanks. The boys are almost 9 mths. They turned our family room into a playroom. LOL. My other DS is 7. Not in the pic. Yes, thats me. Taken last weekend during a night out in NYC. as far as PF Changs, I'm looking at the Grilled Mahi Mahi. Trying to keep sodium down. Their website has all the nutritional values on line. Comes in handy, Check it out.

Popping in - I have been reading and not really posting, but I had to pop in today..

Your twins are gorgeous - I see both you and your wife, but I gotta say, initially they look like you!

And.. apologizes ahead of time but damn. Seriously - you look amazing - I would have never guessed you were about to turn 40.

Ahem.. moving on.

Ru poses an interested question that I never thought of - that IS a hardcore workout for the minimal calories allowed on WW. I read what you wrote, but do you find that protein sustains you after burning all those calories? Besides the shakes (I refuse to drink calories also, unless it's an adult beverage) what keeps you feeling full?

It is seriously inspiring that you came home from the carnival, and worked out after all the xxx that you had the opportunity to eat. That's one reason I can't work out too late at night though -my adrenaline keeps me awake too!

Hi Trish,

Thank you!

Yes, You and RU have a very valid point. Does Protein shakes sustain my level of activity? For me, yes it does. But might work for me might not work well for others. I've gotten myself used to drinking the protein post workouts and don't mind drinking my activity points away. I know my body is benefitting from it. Now, if i were drinking protein, without working out. That will really put on weight. Also, its the quality of the protein. Muscle Milk = Not Good. All Sugar and Fat. I look for low fat Whey Protein. Study the nutritional values, Ammo Acids, L-Glutamine. Etc. All these factors need to be taken into consideration. But again, thats just my opinion and whats working for me. Everyone is different.

I've been on Maintanance now since May 07, and let me tell you. For me maintaining my weight has been much harder than losing the 80 lbs, which took me 18 mths. I try not to get comfortable with my eating. I treat myself to some food awesomeness (if thats a word. LOL), I'm human. We all deserve it. Food is too good to be ignored. But the difference between maintaining and gaining the weight back is. Remember how hard it was to lose it? Do you want to do that all over again? Do you want to lose the same weight twice? For me, its a big fat NO!!. So I give myself a kick, realize you treated yourself, then go back on program.

How long have you been on WW?

And please feel free to ask, criticize, and provide your opinion. If I was not open to it, i would not be posting.

Rich -

You make a very good point also - I think that statement right now is what I am most looking forward to about maintenance. I want to be able to eat something without having a major flip out over what I ate, and just kind of being "free", but having a "red flag" weight. I don't know what my actual goal weight is.. so I can't say what my red flag weight will be, but it will be between 5-10 pounds of whatever my goal weight is. I really want exercise to be a part of my life for good though, because I think that will help with the more often "treats". I think that's why I am enjoying reading your P90X/maintenance reports, because I keep thinking that it is where I want to be too.

Thanks for all your inspiration/encouragement/information.

I have been on WW since March 9, 2007. That is when I hit my HW pre-pgcy at 186. It was eye-opening. I did tons of research online, bought the books on Ebay and found this site. :) I lost the weight quickly and was very close to my goal weight (I was around 150, and my goal is somewhere between 135-145) when I got preg w/ DD. Then, I lost the baby weight and was about 160 when I got pregnant w/ DS. So now I am hoping this will be my "last" round of weight loss and I can go on, maintaining when I get there. I have never been at a weight where I was "proud" of what I looked like, but I have been comfortable. I am always self-conscious of my body, and would love to be able to hold my head high, no matter what I have on, etc. I was exercising before and the weight was melting off, so I know I just need to get back on the wagon, hence all the questions about P90X, and once I move into my new place, I should have plenty of room to do this.

+1 to the maintenance Rich! I hit my goal weight of 165 a while ago, and then slipped just a bit, and am now hovering between 170 and 175. Losing those last 5 - 10 is the toughest! I'm very proud of myself (and my wife) for losing the weight that we did, and being able to still have kept it off nearly 2 years later! That is the true accomplishment! I've seen many people go up and down; it's a true test of whether or not you've made a lifestyle change!

Busy Busy Busy. here at work.

Yesterday when i got home I got bum-rushed by a 7 year old needing help with his homework. So I had to sideline P90X for the night. Only downfall to working out at home is the distractions. Not that my DS is a distraction, just more of a sideliner :) . So we went to PF Changs for dinner. I kept it safe and had the Grilled Chilean Sea Bass on a bed of spinich. Very good.

Tonight, I have rush home, stop at Walmart for some camping supplies, cut the lawn, replace a headlight on my Jeep, pack the Jeep with our camping equipment, and if not too tired, try to squeeze a workout in. LOL.

DS and I are going camping with his Cub Scout pack. Should be a lot of fun. I love the outdoors. I have 3 camping trips this summer planned. Thats just DS and I. I'm hoping to get at least one in with the entire family. :)

Friday night I was able to squeeze in a workout. It was a productive weekend. Went camping with my sons cub scout pack. Lets of hiking and pickup football and kickball games. It was lots of fun. Eating was not as clean as I had hoped for. I wish I had been a better prepard. I had to settle for camp food while I was there.

Today, I'm hoping to do chest and back. I have lots to do tonight. I have a business trip to NYC on Wed. I leave tomorrow night and come home Wed night. Hoping to squeeze something in.

Hi Rich, I found your posts about P90X. I got mine for Christmas this year and LOVE them! I finished 4 weeks, using the schedule but haven't really stuck very well to the schedule since then. I started training for a 5K, with Couch to 5K and had a hard time finding time to run 3 times a week and do the P90X workouts. I've been doing the strength training videos on the days that I don't run.

I'm 51 and was in pretty good shape, having been a Firm fanatic for years. I've lost 70 pounds on WW over the past 8 years or so but have never reached Lifetime. I rejoined this past Saturday, with the goal of losing the last 20 pounds. With running and P90X, I hope to do that this summer...I'm a pretty slow loser. I'm now also trying to increase my mileage to be able to run an 8K in September and would love to do a half marathon by next spring.

As for protein, I started drinking the Biggest Loser Protein after a hard weight workout; It's not a large amount of protein but really low in points.

I've enjoyed reading your posts. This evening I did Legs and Back (my least favorite workout). I love Cardio X, Kempo X, and Plyometrics though.

Hey Rich, where are you buddy?!!

I've got a question for you about APs again. I finally did the Chest & Back workout last night, and will be doing the P90x videos in addition to the gym. Not doing the program just yet, but throwing in the workouts here and there. So anyways, about Chest & Back, I didn't think it was too hard - not that I was able to do 100% of the movies, but I did try my best to do as many as possible. I used a chair for the pullups but tried to hang by body as much as possible to get the most use. I would consider this activity "moderate" since it wasn't high intensity for me. Even then, all 55 mins of it were not moderate. So calculating 35m at moderate (= 2APs) and 20m at low (=1AP) I've calculated 3 APs total. I've severly adjusted these numbers. I originally calculated 40m at moderate, which gave me 3APs, bringing my APs to 4 total, which seems like too much. What I'm trying to say is, I don't think I earned 4 APs!

So what's your advice? I'm thinking after I start getting better at these moves, hence doing them more consistently with the time provided and at the pace he's doing it- my APs will go up. But is it fair to say 3APs?

Thanks! And we're missing your updates !!

Hi all,

I was on a business trip to NYC and just got in this morning. So I was not able to complete any workous since Monday. Looking to get into again today.

Goddess, great that you tried Chest and Back. Awesome! With activity points, it all depends. When I do these workouts, I actually keep up with the same amount of reps done on the videos. 30 - 40 pushups per segment. I'm covered in sweat when I'm done. No pushups on my knees. I also have pushup bars so I can go deeper. When at the guym, I use weights for bars. I also never hit the pause button. Same for pull ups. 70% unassisted. as far as cardio, I'm a moderate runner and at one time a Spinning addict. Loved to Spin. I just need a new gym. LOL. So P90X's Cardio workouts are a bit moderate for me. So I try to supplement the P90X cardio. I'm known to spend 60 - 75 mins on the elliptical or arc trainer. On a scale of 1 - 10. I'm usually around an 8 when it comes to cardio. Everyone works out a different level / pace.

Laveta, awesome job. Glad you are doing the program.

Goddess, what did you think of Ab Ripper X?

All I can say is WOW. I really thought I was building my core strength but I didn't realize how far behind I was lol. I was familiar with some of the exercises, but 25 times each was very hard. I didn't finish it to be honest, but I think I will go back this weekend and try it again and go through the whole thing and try to do my best. The time I try it after that, I will try to do 25 of each and actually pause through the DVD.

Tomorrow I'm trying Kenpo with DH! Exciting!!

Did Kenpo yesterday, it was great! I've done kickboxing before so I was familiar with the moves and the pace. There wasn't too many new things for me, and I was able to keep up with most of the workout. I will def do that one again. Felt great afterwards! Calculated about 5 APs but could have easily been 6. Feeling some DOMS on my back today, it's a good feeling. DH tried it later on, but poor thing was really struggling, but he finished it and I'm really proud of him for that!

Good Morning,

Since I ran 5 miles on Saturday, I didn't do a P90X workout. Yesterday afternoon I did PlyoX and Shoulders and Arms....WHEW!!! The cardio workouts are easier for me to calculate AP's for. I'm never sure how many to count for the weight workouts. What does everyone else do?

Today is Yoga, after work.
