  1. Woohoo, made Silver in the President's Challenge (Presidential Champions category) today! 69,893 points until gold! Which should take me 19 weeks best case.
  2. Well, not too much to report this week. No loss, no gain. That's fine since last week was such a phenomenal loss. Starting challenge weight: 191.6 lbs - 12 MAR 13 MAR: 190.4 lbs - 19 MAR - -1.2 lbs 20 MAR: 188.8 lbs - 26 MAR - -1.6 lbs (- 2.8 lbs total) 27 MAR: 184.2 lbs - 02 APR - -4.6 lbs (- 7.4 lbs total) 03 APR: 184.6 lbs - 09 APR - +0.4 lbs (- 7.0 lbs total) 10 APR: 183.4 lbs - 16 APR - -1.2 lbs (- 8.2 lbs total) 17 APR: 182.6 lbs - 22 APR - -0.8 lbs (- 9.0 lbs total) 24 APR: 179.4 lbs - 30 APR - -3.2 lbs (-12.2 lbs total) ** 180 lbs or less by week of 8 May goal reached! ** 01 MAY: 179.4 lbs - 07 APR - 0.0 lbs (-12.2 lbs total) 08 MAY: 15 MAY: 22 MAY: 29 MAY: 05 JUN: 12 JUN:
  3. I'm just curious but is anyone working on the President's Challenge? http://www.presidentschallenge.org/index.shtml There are multiple different challenges folks can sign up for. I started tracking for a DoD fitness challenge we had late last year and have just kept up with it. I personally am doing the "Presidential Champions" challenge which is intended for folks who do a lot of working out and have been for a while. I'm a few days from getting my Silver medal Maybe if we get enough people interested we can start up a group for BCB.
  4. cheryl - great job! That's the way to do it! I know that I have had my ups and downs in the past but having this challenge and everyone's interest has really helped me stick to it and stay motivated also. anaem - sorry to hear that you've been under the weather. I know I have often taken the "calories I consume when I'm sick" stance many a time and what I've learned is that it's OK as long as you don't develop bad habits. And that can be really hard for some of us. But I'm glad to hear that you're looking forward to getting back to the gym. I know when I'm sick I often push myself too hard though and go back to working out probably too soon before my body's fully recovered. So just try to be aware of how you're feeling and don't do something that'll set you back again.
  5. Yep, you got it! Had a neighbor down the street with the same birthday also. May 12th also has Bruce Boxleitner (Babylon 5 CAPT Sheridan) and Tony Hawk! It looks like this was a really great week for everyone. I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone does during this week.
  6. Ah the old digital food scale...best invention ever, I use mine for everything. Making breakfast, packing my lunch, prepping dinner, baking...
  7. Thanks everyone for the kind words. It's funny, at one point when I started losing weight I remember looking in the mirror and really thinking my brother was looking back at me. But I guess this is the person I was always supposed to be, just had to find me in there (sort of like how I believe Michaelangelo described the process of carving statues out of blocks of granite - the statue was always there, he just had to reveal it). Ok so I mentioned in a few places that last Saturday I was naughty - it left me at a points deficit this week but with some hard working out I seem to have beat my expected outcome and posted a really good loss. Sometimes the body needs a shock to the system to help get past a plateau so maybe that's what happened here, though I wouldn't say I was on a plateau as far as my loss goes the past few weeks. In any case, I'm now down to 179.4 lbs, losing 3.2 lbs this week. So that probably means next week will be underwhelming or a slight gain, and that's life. What's really great is that I've now past my intermediate goal of being 180 lbs or less by my birthday week weigh-in, two weeks early (my birthday is 12 May). So go me! Starting challenge weight: 191.6 lbs - 12 MAR 13 MAR: 190.4 lbs - 19 MAR - -1.2 lbs 20 MAR: 188.8 lbs - 26 MAR - -1.6 lbs (- 2.8 lbs total) 27 MAR: 184.2 lbs - 02 APR - -4.6 lbs (- 7.4 lbs total) 03 APR: 184.6 lbs - 09 APR - +0.4 lbs (- 7.0 lbs total) 10 APR: 183.4 lbs - 16 APR - -1.2 lbs (- 8.2 lbs total) 17 APR: 182.6 lbs - 22 APR - -0.8 lbs (- 9.0 lbs total) 24 APR: 179.4 lbs - 30 APR - -3.2 lbs (-12.2 lbs total) ** 180 lbs or less by week of 8 May goal reached! ** 01 MAY: 08 MAY: 15 MAY: 22 MAY: 29 MAY: 05 JUN: 12 JUN: Now, let's see your numbers everyone!
  8. Don't get discouraged crescent, you'll get there. I've run into the same problem time and again. I'm feeling good about myself as far as the mirror goes but probably will be bummed out based on the scale. My little tummy is fading away slowly but surely but for whatever reason I'm really noticing it this week. For example, I had to get a new badge at work because my old one was expiring soon. Here's a picture of me from my very first day, 30 June 2003, and a picture of me today, 27 April 2011. So from a month and a half after my 23rd birthday to two weeks before my 31st birthday. Heck of a difference huh?
  9. Glad to see that everyone is having a good time of this. This past Saturday evening I was a little naughty but I did it with full knowledge of the potential consequences. Not sure if there'll be any long term affect this week but if there is there is and if there's not there's not and that's all there is to it.
  10. Well as I mentioned in my daily post in the "Men on WW" forum, I have a motorcycle class all day tomorrow so I'm not sure I'll be able to WI on my normal day. Instead I WI'd this morning, and I was down 0.8 lbs for a total of 9.0 lbs down since the challenge start and a total weight of 182.6 lbs. Doing good Hope everyone else is having a good time with the challenge. Stay strong, stay positive! Starting challenge weight: 191.6 lbs - 12 MAR 13 MAR: 190.4 lbs - 19 MAR - -1.2 lbs 20 MAR: 188.8 lbs - 26 MAR - -1.6 lbs (-2.8 lbs total) 27 MAR: 184.2 lbs - 02 APR - -4.6 lbs (-7.4 lbs total) 03 APR: 184.6 lbs - 09 APR - +0.4 lbs (-7.0 lbs total) 10 APR: 183.4 lbs - 16 APR - -1.2 lbs (-8.2 lbs total) 17 APR: 182.6 lbs - 22 APR - -0.8 lbs (-9.0 lbs total) 24 APR: 01 MAY: 08 MAY: 15 MAY: 22 MAY: 29 MAY: 05 JUN: 12 JUN:
  11. I take a protein powder shake after workouts as a recovery aid but I haven't tried any other supplements for fitness. What sort of goal are you trying to attain? If I recall correctly, creatine is supposed to help build muscle mass?
  12. Having suffered a torn meniscus in my left knee last fall, I would recommend taking a few days off from running, regularly icing your knee, take anti-inflammatories if that's your thing, and keep a close eye on how you feel. I didn't actually feel the tear happen. The next day what happened was that I could barely walk. After an MRI and several visits to an orthopedic surgeon I'm doing much better, but I'll never be 100% again and that really bums me out. I still get stiff/sore after long workouts, and I haven't tried running again as that's what I was doing when it happened. I didn't have surgery as the doctor doesn't like to do it unless absolutely necessary for quality of life - as once that padding is gone (and all you can basically do is cut out what was torn as it's not a healable injury due to lack of blood supply), it's gone forever. If you get any kind of popping or clicking, go to a doctor, don't wait.
  13. Great job Jen! I had the same experience with clothes last weekend - I put on a pair of shorts and a shirt that I hadn't worn in about a year and a half and they fit great. Super good!
  14. So...How is this week treating everyone? Yesterday's workout was really awful for me as I was battling a massive headache at the time. I thought my head was going to pop off my shoulders at any moment, but I pushed through. This morning I woke up to a bloody nose and that's always fun. I've been having major allergy problems the past two weeks or so and I guess everything was just dry enough this morning that that happened. Hate that. Think I need to switch allergy meds again. I had been using generic claritin for the longest time but last year found it didn't help me very much when we got our Beagle, so I switched to generic zyrtec. Maybe I'll give Allegra a try now that it's OTC...My girlfriend swears by the stuff.
  15. anaem - I know the challenge of losing weight, working and going to school so I definitely understand where you're coming from. Keep the faith, you can make it through any challenge that's presented to you.
