  1. What a wonderful anniversary! You are an inspiration.
  2. Cally, you said it so well. That is exactly how I felt 13 weeks ago. I too was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. The past 13 weeks have been a journey and a great one at that. I do attend WW meetings every week but the real motivation and encouragement I have received has come from the BCB board. Jen, I would recommend that as soon as you have enough posts in to unlock all the BCB groups that you shop around and find a home for yourself. For example, I post virtually every day on the Delta Force board. This is my home. By doing this every day I have built up a relationship with the people there who are all working the plan too and who can give me advice and understand what I am feeling with the program and the day to day struggles and successes. This daily contact with people who understand helps me more than the once a week meeting would all by itself. There are many different boards to choose from so you can shop around until you find the one or more than one that just best meet your needs. As for how you are feeling right in this moment, give yourself a pat on the back because you are not down and out for the count. You are still in this to win and you have not given up. Go organize your closet and spend a little time picking out clothes that make you look good and feel good. Pamper yourself with some body lotion you probably already have in the house and take the time to put on makeup or whatever you normally wear when you want to feel pretty. You can look your best for today and this will give you a boost. Repeat taking care of yourself every day. Oh yes, do exercise. Even if you just start out by going for a walk, do this most days of the week. The fresh air and exercise will also boost your morale. Come back here often and get involved. Lurking is easy but doesn't work nearly as well as posting. Good luck. You can do this.
  3. Welcome back Holly. It's wonderful that you had made it to lifetime. I've never got there but this is going to be the time for me. Good for you for exercising 4-6 times a week and keeping it up for a year. That's a long time and you should be very proud of yourself. That same commitment will serve you very well staying OP with WW. Best thoughts getting sent your way.
  4. Hi Cheryl. I'm 60 and have some arthritis in my knees. Primarily I walk but I do need to be careful especially if I am doing the walk on beach sand or country trails where the ground is uneven. This is most likely to put strain on my knees I guess because I am using them to help stabilize myself. I do notice that the more often and consistently I walk the less trouble I have overall but I do always need to be careful. For me, biking is also good because I don't find it puts strain on anything. That said, this week is the first time I took out my bike in about a year and after my first day my knee was sore and stiff to the point that I took an anti-inflammatory pill. I don't know if the bike caused it or if my walk from the prior day caused it. I did bike yesterday and increased the time from 30 minutes to 45 (actually did 54) and last night and this morning I felt good. I'm going to do another 45 in a couple of minutes. I would recommend checking with your MD about what exercises are best for you and your osteoarthritis as she/he will take everything about you into account when giving their advice. Good luck. I know how hard it can be to accept our limitations.
  5. Thanks. This is helpful. I was also thinking to try some yoga as I could really use more flexibility. I'll have to look around for a class in my area. I'm sure there are some.
  6. Hi Buddies. I see there hasn't been a new thread here in a while so I thought I would start one. I'm exercising on my own. Right now I am walking 30 minutes a day for a minimum of 4 days a week but for the past couple of weeks I have done 6 days. My DH and I usually walk on country park trails so there are some ups and downs and uneven ground but nothing major. I'm thinking to start doing 45 minutes starting next week on at least 4 of the days. But how do I know that I am pushing myself enough? I was thinking to add some strength training in too but not sure how to start. I'm 60 years old so I know enough to be careful as I don't want to kill myself but on the other hand I want to push myself enough that I actually accomplish getting fitter. I tend to be lazy so I am more worried that I won't do enough rather than that I will overdo. Any advice?

    Walking

Not sure why but I'm guessing that when you are in your home you are walking slower because you are moving around a lot more corners or curves which would slow you down. In a mall you might be able to pick up a bit more speed because more of the walk would be in long straight lines. Anyway, that's my guess. Still, good for you for walking in your home and not using the dogs/snakes as an excuse not to exercise.
  8. Way to go. You mush be over the moon proud
  9. I saw that the general discussion forum reappeared today but there were no current posts so I thought I'd start one. Sometimes for dinner DH and I want a simple but filling meal so we just have angel hair spaghetti with a meatless tomato sauce and a tossed all veggie salad to go with it (usually with Balsamic Vinaigrette). I had always thought this was fine and that it was good to go without protein once in a while. Recently, however, I read that it is best to always have a protein with your starch but I don't know if this is really true. I don't want to be eating a meal that would make it harder for me to stay OP. Does anyone have any info on this or any experience?
  10. I can't post anywhere else yet so I thought I would post this here. I went to my meeting this morning and I am down 4.8 lbs for my first week back to WW. I am extremely pleased with this result. While I still have a long way to go I am very determined to enjoy the journey. I have made 2 promises to myself this time. I will workout/walk at least 4 days a week for at least 30 minutes and I will plan my dinner menus weekly. I don't worry about planning breakfast as I usually just have a breakfast bar (I love Fiber One Bars) or oatmeal. Lunch is usually leftovers garnished from dinners. I am one of those people who really likes leftovers. The main thing for me is to plan dinners so that I am not just grabbing something at the last minute when I am tired which can easily turn into take out or eating out. So this has been a good first week.
  11. This was a great thread. I'm glad I found it. I now have a better understanding. Thanks.
  12. Beautiful. I used to have Kaspersky and thought I had uninstalled it but it would appear that part of it was lurking somewhere and was causing this problem. Thank you very very much for finding out how I could resolve this issue. I used the uninstaller and it appeared to do something and now the problem is gone.
  13. Thanks I will try the uninstaller.

  15. I have 2 questions I hope someone can help with: 1. Didn't there used to be a General Forum where people talked about general stuff of the day type items? I can't seem to find it anymore. 2. When I post, my post first prints out with Preferences and then a bunch of numbers all down the left side making it extremely long with garbage. Then I have to go in and delete the garbage and then it is OK. It didn't used to do this when I was here in the past. Is there something new and I'm doing the post wrong? I notice the button says Quick Reply and I don't remember that from the past but I wouldn't think that would cause this problem. Thanks
  16. I hear you. The leaders at meetings are really important as they set the tone for everything. I have been lucky in having met a couple of great leaders in my time. They have been so inspirational.

    5% goal!!!!

I'm looking forward to when I can say that! Well done.
  18. Hi Kathleen, welcome! You have a very interesting story and I am glad that you and your MD have found something that is working well for you. I don't generally go on the WW official board either. When I belonged here before my "home" was Delta Force. I really liked that forum because all of the members were so serious. (Certainly not to say that the other forums aren't serious too.) When I went to WW meetings before, I used to get discouraged by the members who would say "I really blew it.....I ate....Ha Ha Ha" That was why Bootcamp Buddies was so important to me. It was because of the seriousness. I'm just back again this week having restarted WW and my meeting on Wednesday so I think I need to make a certain number of posts before I can earn the right to post on Delta Force again. I'm 60, DH and I are retired and my 2 kids are grown. We live in Orange County with our 15 year old very set-in-her-ways cat. I hope to "see" you often at Bootcamp Buddies.
  19. That's really cute. I'll remember that. I know that I didn't gain all my extra weight overnight. I just need to remind myself that it will not all come off overnight either.
  20. I can certainly relate to the weight changes and slow downs that can come with getting older. Menopause was OK for me, quite mild in fact, but I did notice that I couldn't lose as fast as I had previously even though I was really OP. Then I started having problems with my thyroid that led to it being removed. For a while it seemed I could gain weight vastly more easily than I could lose it. While that really seems unfair, I remind myself that the benefits of being OP really start from day 1 when you start to feel better. When I eat right and exercise my tummy feels better, my skin looks better and my joints hurt less and are less stiff. You'd think that knowing this I'd never stray but unfortunately that is not the case. Best of luck on your journey. I'm hoping to be right here going along right next to you all the way to goal.
  21. Hi everyone. I've been away for years but am back again. Just rejoined WW on Tuesday. I used to post on Delta Force but mostly under an old email that we changed when we moved house 3 1/2 years ago. I'm 60 years old. I have a hubby and 2 grown children. Only hubby still lives at home. We also have a 15 year old kitty who is extremely set in her ways. I live in Orange County California. We moved here 3 years ago when my husband retired for the beautiful weather and to get away from the snow back east. We both like to take walks outside in the sunshine so this will be my primary form of exercise. I tried to also post on Delta Force but it is locked to me. Is this because I have not posted in a long time? Do I need to make a certain number of posts again? Thank you for being here so I can come "home" again.
