  1. I am 53 years old and have a question on how high my heart rate can safely go when working out. I told my trainer that I wanted to burn 500 calories as I am having a very hard time losing weight. So, she had me run for 3 min. at 5.5, walk 2, run, etc. 3 times. Then, I did the eliptical as fast as I could for 3 min, did jump rope 30 sec. on 30 sec. rest for 3 times and then repeated it. At one time my heart rate got up to 196 (it was very briefly then dropped down to 164) Isn't this too high? My trainer said "well, you're still talking and breathing, you're fine.
  2. Does the elliptical for well for weight loss? I had been running, but have severe shin splints that act up everytime I try running again so I thought I would try the elliptical combined with the recumbent bike. Will this work as well as the running for weight loss?

Could someone recommend a good Pilates tape? I've tried the Winsor Pilates and I can do the butt and thigh part, but for the stomach ones, I cannot do some of them (the ones where you lie flat on your back and raise your legs over your head). Any other good ones out there?
  4. Anyone ever do this workout? If so, how did you like it? Did you get results?
  5. Oh yeah, I make sure to get all the points in. I am losing the weight, but just not noticing the difference in the way I look. I would have thought that 16 lbs. one would notice some difference.
  6. I have lost 16.5 lbs. doing WW over the last 2-1/2 months. However, there is very little noticable difference in my body. Any ideas why? I walk about 4-5 times a week for anywhere from 6-10 miles/day, plus do Curves 4-5 times a week. I would have thought that by now there would be quite a bit of difference and it's very disappointing.
  7. I am trying to get off of soda (I normally have 2-3 cans/day of Diet Pepsi) and since I am not a lover of water I am trying to substitute my soda for water w/Crystal Light in it. Is this okay or is Crystal Light not so good for you either. Eventually I hope to drink all water, but for now this is how I am doing it. Thanks for your help
  8. In Sept. I am walking the 3 day 60-mile Susan B. Komen walk. Any suggestions as to how to get ready for this event? Right now I walk about 8 miles/day 5-6 times a week. Thanks for your help.
  9. not to sound stupid, but what's a pronator?
  10. I typically walk 5-6 miles a night and currently have a pair of Saucony shoes with arch support. However, by the time I get through the first 3 miles or so it hurts in the area underneath my two small toes. I have had this problem for many years and so far haven't found the proper shoe. Any suggestions of shoes that I can get to help alleviate this? Thanks.
  11. Anyone ever try any of the treadmoves videos for workout on the treadmill? They look and sound like they would be kind of fun.
  12. Friday, April 27 -Between 2:00-3:00 pm EST See Leslie, Mary Kay, Linda, Joanne, Regina and Carl demo the 5 Mile Walk with the Soft Hand Weights! Is this a new DVD?

Anyone ever try spinning? If so, did you like it? If no, why? Do you think it would be okay to be if one has problems with their knees?
  14. Can anyone recommend a good walking shoe that will work if you have high arches? Thanks.
  15. For cardio I do the treadmill for 50 minutes. My question is - for interval training for weight loss what would be better to do the treadmill - on an incline for several minutes and then no incline, then on an incline, etc. OR walk normal then fast for several minutes then normal again, etc.? Thanks
