  1. This is Judy's DH. She is home and doing well.
  2. I have not left, just been gone for a bit. I am having carpal tunnel surgery tomorrow (Thurs.) I have been really busy getting some cooking done of stuff to have around after surgery. My DH is really good at helping me but is terribly lost to be in the kitchen by himself so wanted things he could just heat up in microwave. I also wanted to have a clean house as it will be hard for me to clean for a while after surgery. I had carpal tunnel surgery in 1991 on both my right and left wrists which were 6 months apart. My surgeon said carpal tunnel comes back in 1% of people who have had the surgery before. Yikes, I do not like being in such an elite group.
  3. I have not been here for a while so when I loged into BCB and saw this post. I had a heart attack and was almost in tears. See my OT post to see what has been going on with me.
  4. Happy Birthday, Sue. Hope you had a wonderful day.
  5. DH and I took 2 paintings that DH's great grandmother painted to an art restoration and framing place to have cleaned and restored. We also are having another picture framed. I also having my cousin’s christening gown which my mother embroidered framed in a shadow box. So far I am impressed with this restoration place. We first got estimates on framing the 2 pictures at Michaels and was not impressed at all. I had no help from Michaels but the art restoration and framing place made suggestions which I really liked. I can't wait to get them back but I will have to be patient as it is going to take 3 months to have the paintings restored. Other than this I may get a little house cleaning done.
  6. Hi Everyone, It has been cloudy today and I would like some sun. At least it is not raining. I have been doing some major cleaning especially our 3 spare bedrooms. Two of them had become catch all rooms. I needed to clean them to get them ready for when both daughters and granddaughters visit this summer. They will be here at the same time and I am so excited. The time is going to go so slow. I hate bra shopping. One year I went to Macy's to get fitted and spent $50 a piece for bras. DH was not happy with me but I was so tired of bras not fitting. They were the best fitting bras and they lasted a long time. The last time I bought bras I got a sales clerk at Penny's that knew what she was doing and was able to get bras that fit well. Several times I have had sales clerks finally tell me that I would just have to live with ill fitting bras. What, I don't think so. I left without buying anything.
  7. I had a really fun day yesterday. A friend and I went antiquing and out to lunch. I bought 4 tea cups. I only have 2 spaces in my wall cabinet but I want DH to build me another one and I thought he might be more apt to do it if I had tea cups and no place to put them. Two of the tea cups are rather different. I woke up this morning inspired. We have 2 paintings that DH's great grandmother painted that DH has been bugging me to get cleaned and restored. I have put it off but got them out this morning and well take them in early next week.
  8. I am excited!!!!!! Both daughters and granddaughters are going to visit in July. They will be here at the same time and we are going to take our 5th wheel and go to Moses Lake in E. WA. We have beds for 4 people so 2 people will have to be in sleeping bags. It should be fun and can you tell I am really looking forward to having them all here! Tomorrow a friend and I are going antiquing and out to lunch so do not know if I will be able to get on-line in the morning. I spent too much time on the computer yesterday so my wrist and fingers are really hurting today.
  9. DH and I went to church yesterday and then had a quiet Easter with just the two of us. We had a nice phone conversation with DD #2 on Sat. and DD #1 on Sun. DD #1 is having knee surgery tomorrow to repair a torn ACL ligament. My appointment for a nerve conduction test is Apr. 23 but I am still hoping for a cancellation.
  10. Veronica, I hope you have a wonderful day!!
  11. I know of 2 people besides you that are having problems with vertigo. I wonder if there is some bug going around.
  12. I said I was seeing the doctor tomorrow but meant to say I was seeing him this morning. I saw the doctor and I am now scheduled to see a Neurologist for a nerve conduction test. If the test indicates that I have carpal tunnel then I will be referred to an Orthopedic Surgeon for surgery. I could not get an appointment for a nerve conduction test until April 23 so I hope there is a concellation before that.
  13. Hi Everyone, Just wanted to let you know I am still here but have not been at BCB for over a week. We were in Florida for a week and even though I took my laptop I was just too busy to get on. Now I am in extreme pain from carpal tunnel so typing this with left hand. see dr. tomorrow.
  14. Washing clothes today so we can pack tomorrow for our trip to FL. The airport shuttle is picking us up at 3:55 am., Sun. Ugh! Although that is better than having a late night flight. I am so excited about the trip. Our oldest daughter, the one that broke her wrist last Nov. is having trouble getting on disability. Her surgeon will not approve her for it and says the best thing she can do is go back to work. Her PT says she would say that for any job but Dental Hygiene. The dentist that she worked for says she is too great a liability so does not want her coming back to work. Our daughter said her hand has been periodically jerking and says if that happened when she was cleaning someone’s teeth she could be sued. Our SIL went to the doctor with her but the surgeon still would not approve her. What is wrong with doctors?
  15. gb, I did not like brown rice pasta until I tried the Tinkyada pasta. I have heard others say it taste more like white flour pasta and I have to agree.
  16. Yes, I follow Core. The only thing I do not do is drink milk or soy milk as I am allergic to dairy and soy. I take a calcium supplement instead. I do eat brown rice pasta and prefer the Tinkyada brand of pasta. I was buying it on-line at http://tiny.cc/KDgdq until my local health food store started carrying it. I do not do gluten free bread as bread even gf is a trigger food for me and I have come to love grains better. I was doing an open face sandwich using Ener-G Tapioca bread as it was less crumbly than other gf bread but it is like white flour and I became aware that it was causing me to crave carbs. I will have a brown rice cake and count points once in awhile. I sometimes will have PB2 and a banana on a rice cake as a treat. I eat quinoa a lot especially for lunch as then I can have brown rice, potato or brown rice pasta for dinner. I dry roast the quinoa in a frying pan and then cook it in chicken or vegetable broth. I use the ratio of 1 cup quinoa to 1 1/2 cup liquid rather than the 1 to 2 that instructions say as it gives a more nutty taste. Quinoa can be used anyway that you would use rice. The only grain that I do not like is buckwheat although I do like Bob's Red Mill Creamy Buckwheat cereal http://alturl.com/nfoe but my local health food store carries it. It does not taste like the buckwheat grain. I am wondering if I am allergic to oats even the gluten free one so have eliminated it but plan to try it again sometime to see. My favorite thing for lunch is a salad using quinoa, some vegetables like tomatoes, avocado, bean sprouts, zucchini, leftover cooked vegetables, fruit like apples, banana, strawberries, blueberries, grapes etc. and then a balsamic/olive oil vinaigrette. I mix vegetables and fruit in the salad and change the vegetables/fruit for variety. Trader Joes has a frozen brown rice that comes in pouches that takes 3 min. in microwave and I will use that when I am caught without any grains all ready made. It is alright but the brown rice I like the best is Lundgren's Gourmet Brown Rice http://alturl.com/hy8p It is toward the bottom of this page. My local grocery store carries it. Sugar causes me to crave sweets so I use Splenda. I have a microwave fruit crisp recipe that I sometimes have for dessert. Since I have eliminated oats for the time being I use amaranth flakes in it. I also make a sorbet in my Cruisnart sorbet and ice cream maker. I have a lot of food allergies besides gluten but do not feel deprived. I try to try a new recipe once a week or at least a couple times of month. It keeps me motivated and not feeling deprived. It took a while to get in the groove and I sometimes did find myself feeling deprived but then I tried a new recipe or found a substitute for something I cannot have.
  17. Carol, that is a great idea about saying shampoo outloud as I do not remember how many times I wasn't sure if I had washed my hair or if I had put conditioner in. Another thing I have done a few times if I am having problems with irribtable bladder is I can not remember if I went to the bathroom or not. One time I had leftover meat loaf that I had put in a Corningware dish and the next night I looked in the refrigerator and it was not there. I looked in the oven and it was not there and finally looked in the cupboard and there it was with my clean Corningware dishes. Needless to say it went in the garbage.
  18. Our daughter in AZ phoned me this morning as she had heard from one of her friends that one of her male friends in WA had died. Do not have the details. His parents found him when they checked on him at his apartment since he had not showed up when he was expected. I am guessing he is probably late 30's or early 40's. He had helped us move some furniture and had dinner once at our house. So sad.:bcb_cry:
  19. Lynn, glad your surgery went well. I do not believe I did this, not once but twice. On 2 different occasions I took some homemade sorbet out of the freezer to have for dessert and the next morning found that I had put it back in the refrigerator and not the freezer. Of course it was melted. My mother would do things like that before she died of Alzheimer's. This is kind of scary but I think it is because I have so much on my mind right now. I am trying to get my new laptop set up, software loaded, learning Windows 7, Office 7, Photo Shop, new printer and also trying to learn all I can about Osteoporosis. I also need to make sure I have clothes for our trip to Florida in 8 days. Rereading that makes my head spin.
  20. Oh Lynn, that sounds good. I do not have a waffle maker but maybe I can borrow one from the neighbors to try it and see if I need to get a waffle maker
