  2. Jumping in here because I fit the bill as well! I was a member about 2 years ago and did very well by learning Core. Time went on, I started to not watch myself as closely and here I am back where I started... actually a little higher. I refuse to go buy myself new "fat" clothes, so I'm just going to suffer through the 3 pairs of pants that fit until I fit into the smaller stuff again. Now I'm trying to learn the new program before I "officially" start my new eating plan on the cliched January 1st!

  4. Hi! I pretty much rely on the elliptical for cardio at the gym. There are a couple of other locations (NYSC) that are nicer than my "home gym" and have other cooler cardio equipment, but the elliptical is pretty much my go-to. I set the timer for 30 minutes - warm up for 5 minutes with an easy jog, then do intervals for about 15 minutes of running/sprinting, then I crank up the resistance and slow down for 10 minutes or booty/thigh/calf toning. Cool down on these machines is an automatic addition of 5 minutes and I usually take that at an easy jog like the warm up. I'd recommend following that up with a little strength training with a resistance band if you're working out and home and you'll be all set.

I could swear I remember you giving me some. Either way, here's the recipe. I also think the search feature isn't working. Ingredients 1 cup(s) water 1 tsp table salt, divided 1 cup(s) uncooked whole wheat couscous 1/4 cup(s) fresh lime juice 2 Tbsp canola oil 1/2 tsp ground cumin 1 1/2 cup(s) mango(es), fresh, cubed 1 cup(s) pineapple, Golden-variety, chopped 1/2 cup(s) cilantro, fresh, chopped 1/4 cup(s) red onion(s), fresh, chopped Instructions Bring water and 1/2 teaspoon of salt to a boil in a small saucepan; remove from heat. Stir in couscous; cover and let stand until water is absorbed and couscous is tender, about 5 minutes. Fluff couscous with a fork; cool to room temperature. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, whisk together lime juice, oil, cumin and remaining 1/2 teaspoon of salt until blended. Add mango, pineapple, cilantro and onion; toss to mix. Add couscous to fruit mixture; toss to mix and coat. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate up to 1 day. Yields about a heaping 3/4 cup per serving.
  6. This is so funny! I just got a Ninja Master Prep the other night and I've pretty much just been throwing random things in it and pulsing away. I was looking for a chocolate shake recipe and look - here's one FOR the Ninja! How cool is that? FYI - I tried sugar/fat free cherry jello (one of the little prepackaged cups, just spooned in) and ice in the ninja - came out to the consistancy of gelato and was SO good! DEFINITELY worth the money!
  7. Between what I've learned with WW Online and the message boards, I'm a lot less resistant to the new program than I originally was. I have yet to be able to get out of my office for a meeting, but worse comes to worse I'll start going next week. I'm following Simply Filling, but it's been a habit of mine to journal everything anyway to keep track of my WPAs and also to remember what quantity of food I felt satisfied/full at. I haven't been sticking to it very well lately... I haven't journalled at all and I have some days OP, other days where I can't keep my hand out of the community hershey's kisses jar! So I decided the new program will be my new re-start. I went online and wiped out all my previous weights, so I'm beginning now at my current weight with a new 10% goal and all. I was sad to lose all my stars, but it's kind of cool to have a clean slate. I think it'll be a good way to see exactly how well I respond to the changes in program.
  8. I also have an Omron. Mine is a Omron HJ-720ITC and it was about $30 on Amazon.com. I like that it came with software that you can use to keep track of your exercise - you can look at your number of steps by day or hour, number of steps at an aerobic rate and the distance walked. There are estimates based on info you provide of calories burned and grams of fat lost, but I don't know how accurate it actually is.
  9. Blah, sorry red team!!! I posted a gain of .06, which quite honestly means I lost 2.5 pounds between Sunday night and Wednesday afternoon. As of Sunday night after a disasterous weekend, I weighed a whopping 145.8!!! Who knew birthday cake and brownies could kill your progess so quickly? Well, ok... I did. Fortunately by sticking with a TON of water, lean meats and a lot of salad for the last three days, I was able to minimize the WI damage, and I am back OP (Core) as of this morning. I am going to do the kickstart menu again, which is what I did the week I posted a 3 pound loss and hopefully I will get similar (if not as good or better!) results. So... even though I am up today, I'm definitely looking toward next week to make an impact on the team. GO RED!!!
  10. Thanks for the replies! I didn't realize that the passes were for when you can't weigh in - I thought it was a free week like the WW no weigh in pass. So I missed my normal meeting yesterday (dentist appt) so I weighed myself at home this morning. My scale is a WW brand one and usually within .02 of what my WI weight is, so I hope this will still count as an official weigh in. I was only down .02, but hey... it's something considering I had no right to expect anything! I guess it's the start of loss for being strictly OP since the weekend. GA Peach, you definitely have my prayers for a fast recovery for your uncle!
  11. Hey! I can't decide if I should use this week as my pass or not. I am unchanged from last week, so I'm not sure if I should pass to limit the damage to the team or count it as a regular week with no % lost. I hate the idea of saving passes because I'm better when I'm accountable, but I'm not sure what is better for the Red team as a whole. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
  12. Whoo-hoo! TOM is over and I'm down 3 pounds! I'm so excited... this is my biggest loss in a week to date and I have you all to thank. Since I gained last week, this week every time I put something into my mouth I was thinking about making up my numbers so I didn't hurt the team. LOL... obsessive, yes but it worked! As far as how I'm making it work this weekend, I am going to play the role of generous guest and show up with tons of Core friendly food. I promised a plate of fruit and FF plain yogurt dip (I add splenda and vanilla extract), then a sliced cheese and veggie tray (FF ranch dressing for dip) and then for the main course my "special" turkeyburgers. I sautee tri colored peppers with garlic and peppercorn, then I mix that into 94% FF ground turkey to make patties. I am premaking the patties and freezing them tonight. If I stick to my own food and some salad, I should get through the 4th of July unscathed... it's the Coors Light that could be my downfall!

  14. I haven't weighed in yet, but I wanted to post apologies in advance to the red team. It is my TOM, but last weeks weigh in was kind of a false weigh in. It was following a 4 day illness where I couldn't hold anything down. I lost 5 pounds in 4 days, so some of it definitely came back. I don't think I gained badly, but between knowing I'm bloated from TOM and being able to eat again, I know I'm not where I was anymore. All I can do is try to make up for it next week. Now that I am feeling better, it's back to the gym! Congratulations on your pregnancy Mimi!!! It's wonderful news and I hope the nausea passes quickly.
  15. No congratulations are necessary, I didn't do anything other than drink the water in Mexico. I certainly didn't stay OP, that's for sure. The trip was 100% worth the TD, but for about three days now I haven't been able to hold down any food. Liquids are finally staying down, so I've been drinking WW smoothies for the time being. Wednesday is my normal WI day, so I went today bc I haven't gone for 2 weeks. (Last week I had a dr appt and I can't remember why I missed the week before.) I'm down 5 pounds. It looks so pretty in my little book, the -5!!! lol Realistically, I know this isn't an actual weight loss, it's water weight combined with three days of not being able to eat. Has anyone had any experience with this? Should I expect to gain any or all of it back if I stay OP? Should I try kick start to maintain? I really don't want to gain after such a big (even if not real) loss.

  17. Thanks Sharyn! I saw that kind in my store but passed on it because the jar was huge... but if I like brown rice and pasta, chances are I will like whole wheat couscous. As far as a non-fancy instant meal, I get pre-cut fruit sold in bowls once a week from my grocery store (Waldbaums). I know I pay more for less, but I never end up cutting up my fruit and it goes bad. So tonight I'm taking pre-cooked shrimp (brushed with olive oil and garlic), pineapple chuncks, red peppers and mushrooms and putting them on skewers and on the George Foreman grill. While they grill, I'll steam zucchini and squash in the microwave with my trusty tupperware steamer. I usually throw some spices into the water in the bottom part of the steamer, but tonight I think I'll eat them plain. Should be done in 15 minutes - I hope! I just saw that plaintains are core, so I'm trying to figure out how to make a core version of my favorite spanish foods - chicken with rice and black beans and plaintains. If anyone has any ideas how to modify that, I'd definitely be interested!
  18. Hi Sharyn! Where do you get your couscous? I bought a package but it is semolina couscous, not whole wheat. I realized this AFTER I bought it, of course! Oh well, it's another thing to put in the foot pantry along with all of the 100 calorie snacks I don't eat anymore. I feel terrible that all the food I'm giving away lately is not exactly top of the food pyramid.
  19. Nic, as your loving friend and dedicated co-worker, I will bring in a pair of sneakers and make a promise to do lunch hour walks 2-3 times a week with you unless it's rainy. We all know I'm a witch and I'll melt. We should be able to swing it a couple of days a week... we can order our food and go pick it up rather than have it delivered - something along those lines. Trying to think of something that's not shopping! LOL I can vouch for her that time is a precious commodity and it's not even every day that we are able to get out for lunch. I am single with no children and I STILL have to juggle to get all my exercise in, so I give a ton of credit to all the mommies out there getting all that and more jammed into a day. I think parenting burns about 1000 calories a day, doesn't it?!?!
  20. Ah that DOES help, thanks! I opened the package on Friday so by Tuesday I shouldn't be surprised that it was bad. What I really need to do is stop being so lazy when I come home from shopping and seperate the meat into serving sizes to freeze individually before I put anything away. But not being lazy... that's the hurdle!

I actually wanted to add a layer of ground turkey to it (browned in taco sauce), but apparently I need to stop storing my turkey in storage bags in the fridge because in less than a week it went bad. I have no clue when it comes to stuff like how long raw meat should last, but that seems awfully quick to me.
  22. Definitely cook the rice first, it doesn't cook if it's all together. You get a crappy crunchy crust instead of rice! LOL Nic - I had this tonight since I got home from the gym late (actually I'm still eating it now) and I didn't feel like cooking. I got avocados on the way home and made core guacamole instead of using salsa. OMG this is the best thing ever. DUH-LISH!!!! I'm definitely making this a weekly staple for me too!!!
  23. Hey Roadtripn, we really ARE on the same track! Congratulations on your 3.2lb loss!!! Today was also my third meeting, second weigh in. My first week was a .8 loss, my second was a 2.4 loss. Yay! The leader also brought up activity points because she was doing myths in WW. One of the things was "I should eat all of my activity points". I was pretty much clueless to what that meant because I only just got the week 3 book, but she was pretty firmly against eating your points because she said too many people do the activity to reward themselves with food. To be honest, she really breezed through it so I'll have to read my book to understand what she meant. I think her basic point was that if you're exercising solely to get extra points, you're not doing yourself any favors.

  25. So the leader is telling me not to be upset about this but... I followed the plan this week to the letter. I wrote everything down that I ate, stayed at or close to 22 points (used 8 of the 35 extras), drank tons of water, exercised when I could... and yet I lost a whopping 0.8 lb. My leader said "Be happy at least you lost!" but I'm sorry, I can't. This is a program for weight loss, so I'm SUPPOSED to lose weight. I can't be happy I lost as if I had left it up to chance. What the heck? I posted earlier that I wanted to go with the "health first, weight loss later" approach, so I'll be done feeling sorry for myself quickly and just be stricter for nex week. I just needed to vent!
